What we look for
A good light still feels right after the first impression.
A striking photograph is not enough. We consider how a light belongs in the room around it.
Materials
We consider how a surface looks in daylight, how it responds to warm light and how it feels when seen up close.
Proportion
Scale must make sense with the ceiling, furniture and open space around it. A few centimetres can change a room's balance.
Quality of light
Brightness is only one part of the picture. Direction, softness and shadow all influence how comfortable a space feels.

We think about where a light will sit, what it needs to illuminate and how the room will be used throughout the day.
Our story
Our understanding of light began in 2008.
Since 2008, our understanding of lighting has grown through making it, examining it and seeing how it settles into everyday spaces.
Experience has taught us to look past the first impression. A light must hold its proportions from every angle. Its materials should still feel right up close. Most importantly, it should make sense in the room long after the novelty has worn off.
That practical point of view continues to guide Hozo today.

Our lighting specialists bring practical experience to each stage.
